Current Transformers - Industrial CTs & Instrument Transformers

MPN: Current Transformer Range — industrial control spare part, in stock at TGK Parts.

Product Overview

Current transformers turn a primary current into a measurable 5A or 1A secondary signal — for energy meters, motor management relays and drive feedback. When a CT fails (open secondary, insulation breakdown), the protection it feeds misreads or trips. We supply solid-core and split-core CTs across standard ratios and accuracy classes, plus voltage transformers.

Send your ratio, VA burden and window size (or a photo), and we match the CT.

FAQ

Can I use a metering CT for protection?

Preferably not — protection CTs are designed for fault currents without saturating. Metering CTs lose accuracy above rating and can mislead protection.

Split-core or solid-core?

Split-core CTs retrofit around existing cables without breaking the circuit; solid-core CTs are more accurate and cheaper when installing new.

Why does the secondary need a shorting block?

An open CT secondary develops dangerous voltage. Shorting blocks let you service the meter circuit safely with the primary energized.
